William Francis McCasland
Prospect, CT — William Francis McCasland, a lifelong public servant and proud resident of Prospect, CT, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Waterbury, CT, on June 30, 1938, William was a lifelong CT resident. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in Waterbury (Class of 1956). He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1961.
Following his military service, he initially worked for a local construction company, operating bulldozers and helping build golf courses, including Western Hills Golf Course in Waterbury. He began his career in public safety with the CT Department of Corrections in 1965–1966, before joining the CT State Police in 1966. He served with distinction until his retirement in 1986. For 17 of those years, he served as the Resident State Trooper for the Town of Prospect, where he earned the deep respect and admiration of his community and colleagues.
William continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences from the University of New Haven.
An active member of the community, William was a licensed Amateur Radio operator and a lifetime member of the Waterbury Amateur Radio Club. He served as Vice President of the CT State Police Alumni Association, was actively involved with the CT State Police Museum, served on the Town of Prospect Emergency Management Advisory Council, and remained engaged at the Prospect Senior Center.
William was predeceased by his loving wife of 21 years Mary Grabowski Fowler McCasland, his beloved parents, William and Dorothy McCasland; his sons, Gary Robert McCasland and Paul Richard McCasland; his brother, Thomas McCasland of Yerington, NV; and his sister, Judy Moffat of Naugatuck, CT.
He is survived by his loving companion, Jane Walsh; his sisters, Cathy Brooks of OR and Carole Zak of AL; his brother, Robert (Janice) McCasland of NC; his son, William F. McCasland and his wife Karen of Beacon Falls, CT; his cherished grandchildren, Abigail McCasland, Elizabeth McCasland, and William McCasland of Hardin, IL; and extended family members Howard and Krista Fowler, Scott and Gina Fowler of Prospect, CT, and Kim and Tom Perreault of Southington, CT.
Arrangements: Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 10am at the funeral home. Procession with CT. State Police escort to Prospect Cemetery where Mr. McCasland will be laid to rest will immediately follow services. In appreciation of William’s dedicated military service in the US. Navy, military honors will be presented graveside. A celebration of life party will be held at the Aria located at 45 Murphy Rd. Prospect, Connecticut immediately following the burial. Bill hoped for a large turnout to celebrate his life at the party.
