Verna (Cote) Arndt, 80, of Prospect passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, November 3, 2023 at River Glen Health Center. Verna was the loving wife of Gary L. Arndt for over 58 years. Born June 28, 1943 in New Brunswick, Canada, Verna was a daughter of the late Eli and Elizabeth (Aubin) Cote.
Before taking a job as an administrative professional for the State Corrections system at the Manson Youth Center, Verna was an administrative assistant for Prospect Congregational Church. Quite a different working environment for sure but Verna appreciated the challenge. Verna retired after more than 20 years of service.
Verna was a wonderful mom. She was very involved in the lives of her three children Scott, Kathy and Cindy, while they were growing up. As an advisor for the Prospect Fife and Drum Corp, she valued the camaraderie and team unity of the corp. She enjoyed spending time reading and socializing with her friends over breakfast and Bingo. Verna was a proud UCONN Huskies fan, especially Women’s basketball. For Verna, Misquamicut beach was her peaceful place where many memories were made.
Family was the absolute priority for Verna. She treasured time with her growing grandchildren. Family meals, holidays and vacations brought so much joy. So many beautiful memories and so much love; beloved wife, Mom and Grandma, Verna leaves a vibrant legacy of devotion to family.
Left to honor her love and cherish her memory, besides her husband and best friend Gary, are her son Scott and wife Tara of Ma., and daughters Kathy deCastro and husband Dave of Avon and Cindy Arndt of Cheshire. Verna also leaves her cherished grandchildren: Maggie, Loralei and Abby Arndt, Aly and David deCastro and Steven and Olivia Begley. Verna is also survived by her sister Rena Spice and husband Lee of Ma, brother Ivan Cote also of Ma, sister-in-law Gail Tinti and husband Alan of Glastonbury and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents.
