Tony Smith, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. He lived most of his life in Beacon Falls, recently moving to East Haddam.
Tony was born on November 15, 1948 in Waterbury and was the son of the late Edward J. Smith and Elizabeth (Green) Smith. Tony was predeceased by his sons Brean Smith and Jeremy Dominko. He was a loving husband to Alice (Betkoski) Smith for 39 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Paul Smith and Trisha (Rygiel) Smith of Prospect and Ean Smith and Lillian (Pagoni) Smith of Prospect.
He also has 3 beautiful granddaughters Kaylin, Karly and Josephine Smith whom he adored as well as his siblings Lissa Gallagher and H. William Gallagher, Nichol Yanarella and Mark Yanarella, Kate Smith, John Smith, Jeffrey Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Tony attended St. Thomas More in Colchester, CT and Curry College in Milton, MA. He was co-owner of the E.J. Smith Co. in Naugatuck and after retirement enjoyed working at The Black Birch Golf Club in East Haddam. He was honorably medically discharged from the Army.
He served on the Building Code of Appeals in Naugatuck and was Vice President of the Board of Directors at Winterplace Condos on Okemo in Ludlow, VT. He served on the Board of Directors for Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck as well as the Zoning Board of Appeals in Beacon Falls.
Aside from spending precious time with his family he enjoyed golfing, skiing and socializing with friends. He was a mentor and friend to so many and felt life should be enjoyed and shared with all.
Arrangements: Visitation: Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 10 am at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck.
