Thomas Dumond Sr. Obituary

Thomas George Dumond, Sr., 84, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Tom was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Levay) Dumond, his childhood sweetheart and devoted partner of more than 66 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and will be remembered most for the deep love he had for his family and the steady presence he brought to their lives.  In addition to his beloved wife, Tom leaves behind his sons, Thomas Dumond, Jr. (Lisa) of Prospect, Connecticut, David Dumond (Angela) of Winter Haven, Florida, and Robert Dumond (Keri) of Watertown, Connecticut. He is also survived by his brothers, Allen Dumond of Tampa, Florida, and Michael Dumond, Sr. (Carol) of Watertown, Connecticut. Tom was a proud grandfather to Ashley Fern (Patrick) of Andover, Connecticut, Kelsey Alafriz (Jan) of Marietta, Georgia, Stephanie Narcisco (Andrew) of Cheshire, Connecticut, Deanna Dumond of Manchester, Connecticut, Jacob Dumond of Lakeland, Florida, Tiffany Geddings-Rhoton (Ken) of Lagrange, Maine, and Stefanie Daughtry of Winter Haven, Florida, and a cherished great-grandfather to Dakodah and Jameson Fern, Penelope and Archer Alafriz, Scarlett Narcisco, Arabella Daughtry, and Rosalie, Eli, and Joey Machowski.

Tom was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Donna Dumond, who passed away suddenly in 2007. He will be laid to rest beside Donna in Auburndale, FL, a reunion he held close in his heart for many years. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Raymond Dumond, Lawrence Dumond and Joseph Dumond, Jr.  His memory will live on in the love of his family and in the many lives he touched.

Although born in Waterbury, Tom and his brothers grew up in Watertown, where he attended local schools. In 1978, Tom and Evelyn began their new life in Winter Haven, Florida, where they raised their children and where Tom began his long career with Aramark Corporation. Over a career spanning more than thirty years, he served as a Regional Director.

At a young age, Tom picked up the guitar and taught himself to play, and he continued playing throughout the 1970s and 1980s, performing at various venues in Connecticut and Florida. Local bands, South Bound Express and South City Ramblers, Tom was the front man and guitarist singing the classics, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jr. and Conway Twitty to name a few. His family loved to hear him sing at various locations with his late brother, Joe, or at family gatherings along with his grandchildren.

Tom also loved working with his hands, from building Harley-Davidsons from the ground up to doing auto body and paint.  A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he always had a Harley and owned one to this day.  He was also a self-taught jack of all trades who took great pride in helping his children with their many projects, always eager to share his experience, knowledge, and practical skills in any way he could.

After retiring, Tom hand-built the dream home he and Evelyn shared in Mountain City, Tennessee, which remained a source of pride and joy for nearly a decade. Later, due to health issues, they returned to Winter Haven, and more recently, Tom and Evelyn temporarily relocated to Connecticut for a brief time prior to Tom’s passing. Tom will always be remembered for his strength and courage, never giving up no matter the odds.

The family would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to Tom and Evelyn's nephew, Daniel LaCapra, for all of the love and care he provided to them over many years. Funeral services with burial to follow will be held in Florida.

The family will be holding a celebration of Tom’s life in the next few weeks for his family and friends here in Connecticut with details to follow.
