Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend
Susan N. Robinson, 77, of Naugatuck passed away peacefully March 9, 2026 while surrounded in the love of her cherished family. Susan was the widow of the late Gilbert M. Robinson Sr. Born September 6, 1948 in Bridgeport, she was the loving daughter of the late Ralph and Naomi (Patenaude) Thomas.
Susan will be remembered above all for the deep love she had for her family. A devoted mother, grandmother and proud great grandmother; she found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved and created a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt they belonged. She was a fantastic cook who delighted in preparing meals for family gatherings, especially her cherished Sunday dinners. Those weekly meals- often with her surprisingly unique style of hearty Sunday sauce with pasta and her famous, award-winning chili with her secret ingredient that rang in the Summer was a family favorite. Susan gave her family a beloved tradition which continues to bring everyone together around the table.
Susan was also known for her strong work ethic and generous spirit. She worked hard throughout her life, always putting her family first and making sure they were cared for and supported. In quieter moments, she enjoyed crocheting, a hobby through which she lovingly created beautifully designed blankets, hats and scarfs for family, friends and the needy by participating in relief programs with the best of her carefully selected materials so her work would be fine made.
An animal lover at heart, Susan had a special affection for all her dogs, exotic birds and colorful tropical fish that she pet parented. No animal in her life was shy of her love and devotion.
Susan is survived by her loving children and their families: her son, Roger L. Rushworth Jr. and his wife Christina of Middlebury; her daughter Amanda N. DeSantis (Rushworth) and her husband Anthony of Naugatuck; her daughter Penny Lynn Rushworth and her partner Ann-Marie Thomas of Naugatuck; her daughter Daun Medin (Robinson) of Port Charlotte, FL; and her son Gilbert M. Robinson Jr. and his wife Beth of Williston, ND. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Rebecca Katherine Rushworth; Rachael Naomi Rushworth and her fiancé Aaron Paquette; Noah Samuel DeSantis and his fiancée Alyssa Lynn Fish of Naugatuck; Joshua Anthony DeSantis and his wife Jennifer of Bristol; Nicole Medin; and Chance Voegeli. She was the proud great-grandmother of Madalina Susan DeSantis, Gabriel Andrew DeSantis, and Samuel Paul DeSantis.
She is also survived by her twin sister, Sandra (Thomas) Whitaker of Beacon Falls, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Susan was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Penny Marie Rushworth; her sister, Carolyn L. (Thomas) O'Donnell; and her brother, Ralph C. Thomas Jr.
Susan’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the traditions she created, the meals she shared, and the love she gave so freely to her family.
