Steven Wayne Garland

Steven W. Garland, 64, of Old Lyme, passed away unexpectedly on April 10th, 2026.

Steve was a devoted and steadfast father, a loyal friend, and a proud son. He served his country with honor and distinction across three branches of the United States military- the Marine Corps, the Army, and the Coast Guard- including service in Afghanistan. His commitment to duty and country reflected both his strength of character and his deep sense of responsibility. A Mainer through and through, Steve held a profound appreciation for family, friendship, and the outdoors. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures- camping in “the bus,” riding his Harley on open roads, target shooting, and sharing a few beers around a campfire with those he cared about most. Steve loved boating and made great memories with his lifelong friends going to Block and Jewel Island. He also loved his dog, Clipsy. Known for his quiet strength and steady presence, Steve was the kind of man who showed up when it mattered. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, never seeking recognition, only to help. His calm, approachable nature and genuine kindness earned him lasting friendships across many walks of life. He will be remembered for his service, his integrity, and the unwavering support he gave to those fortunate enough to know him.

Steve is survived by his son Christopher Garland of Old Lyme, sister Michelle Garland of Portland ME, brothers Michael Garland of South Portland ME, Jeff Garland of Portland ME, Paul Owen Garland, and Robert Garland, both of ME. He is predeceased by his mother Brenda Garland (Dusto), his father Paul Garland and brother Paul David Garland.
