Sarah Louise (White) Steele

Sarah Louise (White) Steele, 90, of Prospect, passed quietly in her sleep on December 9th 2020. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Myron Steele Sr.

Sarah was born on March 20, 1930, in Williamsport, PA, daughter to the late James Hudson and Emma (Eutermarks) White. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her husband Ken and her sons the late Kenneth Myron Steele Jr, and Joseph Robert Steele Sr. of Prospect.  She worked at Timex Corporation and at Algonquin School cafeteria helper for many years.  She loved art and completed many oil paintings and sketches that still adorn the family home today. Sarah was a very warm and engaging soul who loved to go to St. Anthony’s church and the Prospect Senior Center to play bingo or just enjoy time with her friends, especially her best friend Lee Mancini of Prospect.  Sarah was a woman of faith trusting in Jesus as Savior as a young girl while attending Central Baptist Church in Williamsport, PA.  She was a member and regular attendee of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Woodbridge, CT. 

Sarah was the matriarch of the White family (the last surviving child of James and Emma White) who through her love, devotion, and selflessness was a great uniter of the family as she is loved by everyone.  Sarah was so grateful for everyone in her life, even on her worst days she radiated the light of her Savior.  Her warmth, encouragement, and tender smile will never be forgotten.

She grew to love sports in support of her husband Ken and son Joe.  She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankee fan.

Sarah married Ken Steele in 1947 and lived with her family and by herself in the same Prospect residence for more than 68 years. Sarah and Ken were married for 60 years before his passing in 2008.  She was a sweet and supportive grandmother to her four grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Steele Sr and his wife, Jacquelyn (Sullivan) Steele of Prospect, and her grandchildren, Kristyn, Katelyn, and Joseph Jr. She was predeceased by her son, Ken Steele Jr, her husband Ken, and  her granddaughter Gabrielle Mary Steele.

We are so grateful to the many caregivers that have cared for Sarah during the times that we were not able to.

A private graveside service will be held at Prospect Cemetery. Anyone invited to attend is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm on December 21 and will be streamed via Facebook live (https://www.facebook.com/search/videos/?q=trinity%20church). Prospect Memorial Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
