Rubin Little Obituary

Beloved Husband, Father, Son and Teacher

It is with profound grief and sadness that the family of Rubin Tyrone Little, 59, of Prospect, announce his unexpected death on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Rubin, also known as Tyrone to those who knew him in childhood, was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Gift) Little.  Born July 10, 1965 in New Haven CT, Rubin was the cherished son of Camera Quebec Johnson nee Patricia Ann Thompson and the late Edgar Vance Little.

Rubin was genuine, keenly intelligent and connected with people easily.  As a summa cum laude graduate of Southern Connecticut University, Rubin achieved a sixth-year degree.  Rubin had a diverse career which included time spent as a CT State Trooper, an accountant in the Yale Pediatric program and time teaching at Career Technical School in New Haven. He then pivoted and spent the next several years as a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise. Rubin returned to teaching in 2019 at Ansonia Middle School teaching the curriculum that he created in business and financial literacy.  He cared deeply for his students, and they adored and respected him.  He was a wonderful role model for each of them.

While proud of secular achievements, if you asked Rubin what he was most proud of, he would tell you it was the choice he made to invest time into studying the Bible.  He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in September 1987 and treasured the relationship he built with his Heavenly Father.  He was a teacher at heart – always.  So, when he the privilege of spending time as a full-time volunteer minister was available to him, he took advantage of the opportunity to teach others the bible truths he had come to know and love. Rubin was an elder in the congregation and cared so much for the friends he had the pleasure of shepherding.

He valued all his relationships whether family, friend or colleague.  He had a great sense of humor and teasingly created nicknames for so many, whether a new acquaintance or an old friend. Entertaining, cooking, singing, fishing and traveling were just a few of Rubin’s favorite hobbies.

Rubin cherished and adored his wife, Cheryl and the life they built together.  He loved his children deeply. He shared a special bond with his mother, not only as mother and son, but as true friends.

Rubin leaves his loving wife Cheryl, his children Bethany Little of NC and Ashton Little of MA, his mother Camera Quebec Johnson and stepfather Russell Johnson of Cheshire.  He also leaves his brothers: Kennard Ray Little and wife Grace of NC and Corey “Coda” Little of Cheshire. His stepsisters, JoDana Newman of HI and Erica Williams of NY, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends all held a special place in his life.

Rubin Tyrone Little will be missed but his love, memory, and legacy will live on in family and all who had the privilege of being called his friend.
