Rosemary Capon, 94, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Apple Rehab in Guilford. Rosemary was born on April 21, 1929 in Sussex, England, a daughter of the late Olive K. (Saunders) and Henry J. Capon.
Rosemary came to the United States in 1959 on the Queen Elizabeth with her sister Joan. They braved the trip across the Atlantic along with ten poodles with dreams to begin a pet service. Rosemary would go on to run her own kennel that included grooming and breeding. She specialized in dachshunds and shelties and even competed in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on many occasions. Rosemary had a gentle, caring heart and was an animal-lover through and through. She also loved horses and would look forward to watching the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes every year. Rosemary enjoyed living near the shore and it was a tradition to take her family to Hammonasset State Park for pizza when they would visit from the UK (although she gave most of hers to the seagulls!)
Rosemary was also very active at the Madison Senior Center and would often go on outings and day trips with “the girls,” a sisterhood of friends she held so dear.
Rosemary was as smart as a whip and could tell you anything from the Latin names of flowers to the names of King Louis’ wives! Her friends knew her as a generous and warm woman, and the most loving person you’d ever meet. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rosemary is survived by her nephew Philip J. Capone of England, and many dear friends including Cynthia Barker of Madison and Susan Jaffe of Branford.
Rosemary is predeceased by her parents, her sister Joan O. Capon, and her brother Michael J. Capon.
Rosemary’s friends will be holding a memorial service at a later date. Rosemary’s friends will be holding a memorial service at a later date.
