Ronald Todd Staples, 60, of Naugatuck, formerly of Prospect, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the VITAS in-patient unit at St. Mary Hospital in Waterbury. He was the loving husband of Michelle (Theriault) Staples for 33 years.
Todd was born on October 26, 1962 in Scranton, PA, a son of Eleanor (Brier) Staples and the late Ronald William Staples. Todd was raised in Prospect and for many years was a member of the Prospect Congregational Church before moving to Naugatuck with his family. He attended Kennedy High School, graduated from Wilby High School and was a member of their swim team.
Todd was a hardworking man who was great with his hands. For much of his life he worked in flooring installation, both as an independent contractor and for many years at Associated Carpet in Waterbury. He was an avid fisherman and would often visit the “sand pits” in Beacon Falls looking for that next big catch, or Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire with the guys on Memorial Day weekend. Todd loved being outdoors and spending time with his family. They enjoyed their time together boating on Candlewood Lake, skiing in Vermont, and taking their quads up to New Hampshire. Todd also liked sports and was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Celtics fan.
Left to cherish Todd's memory is his beloved wife Michelle; his son Ryan Staples and his fiancé Krystal Chapman of Naugatuck; his daughter McKenzi Staples of Naugatuck and her significant other Mike Mascolo of Waterbury; his three siblings: Timothy Staples of FL, Lori Staples and her significant other Billy Checho of Scranton, PA, and Nancy DeMarest and her husband James of Watertown; his favorite mother-in-law Linda Theriault of FL; his brother-in-law Scott Theriault and his wife Kim of Thomaston; his seven nieces and nephews: TJ and Tyler Staples, Mike and Brooke Noreikis, Trevor Checho, Hannah Theriault, and great-niece Elliana Noreikis; as well as many cousins, dear friends, and his canine companion “Mister” Wessy.
In addition to his father, Todd is predeceased by his father-in-law Yvon Theriault.
Visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Prospect Memorial / The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd. in Prospect with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 7pm.
