Rob Dwy 74, of Naugatuck passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, March 14, 2022, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of June (Alsdorf) Dwy.
Born on June 11, 1947, in Waterbury, Rob was the youngest son of the late Irving and Gertrude (Durette) Dwy. He attended school in Naugatuck and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. Rob served his county, and was a proud Marine, serving in Vietnam from 1966-1970.
Rob worked for G and L Excavating for several decades. He was a member of Union Local 478 of Operating Engineers at John J. Brennan Construction Company where he retired from. Rob then spent most days in his back yard, poolside at “The Lazy River” and watching birds. He was a hard-working husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He taught his children to not only work hard but to make time for family, as family was most important. Rob loved vacationing in Aruba, was an avid gardener, a motorcycle enthusiast, loved radio control airplanes and loved creating things, everything he touched he turned into something amazing.
As his family grew, so did his nicknames “Pop”, “Grampi” and “Gunk”, as he was known to his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was happiest when spending time with family.
In addition to June, his beloved and devoted wife of 55 years, Rob is survived by his Daughter Jacqueline Dwy, her fiancé David Broadus of Waterbury, a son James Dwy of Naugatuck and a daughter Jennifer Dwy of Naugatuck. His beloved grandchildren: Christopher Dwy, Jessi Dwy, Sabrina Dwy, Jami Dwy Britt and her husband Taray and Jaylen Kelley. His great grandchildren: Devin Caulfield, Cameron Alvarado, Yahmad Rountree Jr, Aria Britt and is expecting another great granddaughter soon. He also leaves behind his sisters Beverly (Dwy) Wilde and Carol (Dwy) Butler and his brother Russell Dwy, his wife Patricia and he was predeceased by his brother and sister: Irving (Buddy) Dwy and Judy Dwy and his niece Tammy Lang. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 1 PM at Prospect Memorial /Palmerie Family Funeral Home 72 Waterbury Rd, Prospect. Military honors will be accorded following the service.
