Roberto Perez

Roberto Perez, 82, of Miami and formerly of New York and Waterbury, passed away on July 22, 2021 at Vitas Kendall Florida.

He was born on January 27, 1939 in Havana, Cuba son of the late Higinio and Benigna (Yanes Rios) Perez. Prior to his retirement, Roberto was a law clerk and an event planner for the NYC Bar Association. Roberto was adept at sketching, interior design, loved and collected antiques. He appreciated the details of what made the world beautiful. He loved the arts, was a season ticket holder to the opera, enjoyed visiting the museums, shopping and traveling. In his spare time he read and did the New York Times crossword puzzle.

Roberto loved his family, he helped pick the names for his nieces and nephews.  He was everyone’s favorite Uncle Bob; his nieces and nephews had the times of their lives when visiting Uncle Bob in New York.  They would visit museums, go to the opera, shopping or anything else they would enjoy.

Roberto emigrated from communist Cuba in 1962.  He left all that was familiar and comfortable to begin a new life in the land of the free.  Ironically, Bob did not have a trace of his native country’s accent, he spoke in an almost British accent.   Bob loved the United States, living in New York and Waterbury and most recently he resided in Miami Florida, enjoying the juxtaposition of his native Cuban and American cultures in a warm and sunny climate.

Roberto leaves to cherish his love and memory and honor his legacy, his brother Higinio Perez and his wife Zenaida Perez of Waterbury, a nephew Eduardo (Josepha) Perez of Stratford, a niece Susana (Augustine) Sanchez of Naugatuck along with four grandnephews David, Daniel, Mark and Gabriel and one grandniece Camelia.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main Street, Waterbury where he will be laid to rest with his family. The Prospect Memorial/Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
