Robert J. Johnson, Sr.

Robert “Bob” Johnson passed away on November 23, 2024, in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. He was born on November 24, 1948 in Waterbury, CT son of the late Byard and Josephine (Genovese) Johnson. Bob was the loving husband of Janice (Martinelli) Johnson for 56 years.

Bob worked for the United Parcel Service (UPS) and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He coached his sons East Mountain baseball and basketball teams for many years. Bob was a skilled handyman; in his spare time, he had a passion for home improvement projects. He spent many years traveling annually around the US to various professional baseball parks with his close friends. Above all, Bob cherished time spent with his family especially at the South Carolina beach house.  

Besides his wife, Robert leaves his children: Jennifer Johnson and her husband Paul Buffat of West Hartford, John Johnson Sr. and his wife Kerri of Waterbury, Robert Johnson Jr. of Cromwell and his beloved grandchildren: Zoe Buffat, Lina Buffat and Trevor Johnson. He is survived by his Brothers-in Law, Aunt Kathleen Genovese, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was predeceased by his grandson John Johnson Jr. and his brothers John L. Johnson and Michael Johnson. 

Family and friends are invited to gather on December 1, 2024, from 4 to 6pm at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect, CT 06712.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the next day on December 2, 2024 at 10am at Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W Main St, Waterbury, CT 06702; all are welcome to proceed from the funeral home to church together.

Interment will immediately follow services at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 E Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705.
