Mr. Paul C. Smerekanicz, 89, of Seymour, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2025. He was born on March 3, 1936 in Seymour to Nicholas and Anna (Sydoriak) Smerekanicz and was a welcome addition to their growing family, as he was one of thirteen children.
Paul graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after. He proudly served his country from 1958 - 1960 as a Motor and General Repairman, and even earned a Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary efficiency and workmanship. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and returned back to his hometown after detouring to drive cross country twice.
Upon his return from overseas service, Paul met and married his wife, Janet (Penny) Smerekanicz. Together, they raised a son and daughter. Paul began working as a maintenance man to provide for his wonderful little family. He was a hardworking individual and took great pride in all of his work.
Paul loved gardening, being outdoors, and caring for his yard. He loved old cars and spent most of his free time playing with his grandchildren and tinkering with various machines and projects.
Paul now joins his late wife, his parents, and eleven of his siblings. He is survived by his two children: daughter Nicole Smerekanicz and her husband Jared Dick, of Seymour, and son Mike and his wife Maria Smerekanicz of Monroe, as well as his three grandchildren: Olivia, Madison, and Peyton. Paul is also survived by his twin sister, Paulette. Services will be private and at the convenience of his family.
Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Paul and assist his family during their grief journey. Please leave your memories, condolences, and words of comfort for his family on his Tribute Wall on this page.
