Nereida Cruz

Nereida Cruz, 81, of Waterbury, passed away on August 6, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born on August 6, 1940, in Penuelas, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Hipolito and Leonor (Pabey) Velez.

Nereida is survived by her children; Nivea Manning and husband Mark A. of Wolcott, Americo Cruz, Jr. and wife Tina, Richard Cruz, Evelyn Ortiz, Luis Cruz, Noemi Ortiz and husband Samuel, and William Cruz all of Waterbury. She also leaves three grandchildren; Sergio Cruz, Erica Cruz and Myra Cruz whom she raised as her children, as well as eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister Milagros, brothers Hipolito, Nelson, Pedro and Edwin along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister Palmira Velez and two brothers Hiram and William Velez.

All services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. Prospect Memorial/ Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
