Michael Andrew Smolen, 80, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024. He was born December 19, 1943 to the late Dorothy and John Smolen Sr. He is predeceased by his brother Paul Smolen of CA.
Michael attended St. Joe’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia where he earned his high school diploma. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and then worked as a technical writer for General Electric and then Sikorsky in CT which became his home.
Michael was an avid sports fan. He loved all teams Philly! Though he was passionate for his hometown sports teams, his favorite team was the UCONN Huskies Women’s basketball team which he followed for the last 20 years, never missing a game. He also enjoyed watching golf, tennis and even skied in his youth.
Michael is survived by his sons: Jamie and his wife Colleen Smolen of Laurel, MD, and Mark Smolen of Albany, NY, his grandchildren: Evan Smolen and Brittany Smolen, his brother John Smolen Jr. “Bud” of Wernersville, PA, his niece Veronica Ruloph and nephew Christopher Smolen of San Francisco, CA, and a long-time dear friend John Hirshorn of FL.
