Michael Scaviola Obituary

Michael A. Scaviola, 96, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Friday, July 8, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the widower of the love of his life, the late Florence (Grasso) Scaviola. Mike was born March 2, 1926 in Waterbury, son of the late Clavio and Liberata (Lembo) Scaviola.

Mike lived a wonderful 96 years having witnessed many changes and advances in the world. He proudly served his country in the Army during WWII overseas in Italy. At the close of the war and his honorable discharge from the army, Mike began his life stateside in Waterbury. He married his love, Florence, and later welcomed his son Michael R. and daughter Lorraine to their family. Mike worked for the City of Waterbury in the water department for over 20 years before his retirement. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, providing many cherished moments for his family. Day trips to Black Rock and Burr Pond, big family holiday celebrations, playing horseshoes and cards, tending his garden, growing hot peppers, bingo, wood projects, and swimming in the family pool are just a few of the fond memories. “Pop” taught his grandkids life skills and the importance of family.

Influenced by his wife Florence who was a great dancer, Mike took lessons and became the favored dance partner at functions. He and Florence traveled with their group of friends and with the Healthy Hearts Club. He now joins his sweet wife in heaven. Mike’s life, love, quiet humor and legacy will be cherished by his loving family and friends.

Mike is survived by his son Michael R. and daughter-in-law Charlotte Scaviola of Prospect, daughter Lorraine Scaviola Duffy of Waterford, grandchildren, Michael C. and his wife Kristina Scaviola of Dracut, MA, Laura Scaviola and her husband Josh Neagle of Wallingford and Alyssa Duffy of Willimantic, as well as great-grandchildren Michael (Teo) and Max Scaviola. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and Carmen Bessette, his friend and companion of the last few years. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, brothers Anthony, Joseph and Angelo and sister Fannie Colella.

An hour of visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 9:30am to 10:30am at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect. Procession will immediately follow for a funeral mass for Mike at 11am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd., Prospect. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.
