Mary Virginia (Carter) Rush

Deacon Mary V. Rush passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital.  She was born on January 12, 1939 in Charleston, SC to the late Bunie Exxie Searcy and William West Crawford.

She has been a resident of Connecticut since October 19, 1965. She worked for Dibner’s Dress as a seamstress for 18 years and Waterbury Companies for 13 years as a machine operator. She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher for the adult class, a Grace Baptist P.T.A. member, and the Secretary of the Grace Baptist H.I.V./A.I.D.S ministry.

Mary is survived by: her daughters Florinda C. Duckworth, Yvetta K. Chisim, and Exxie Marie Carter Jones and son James Carter III, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be hosted by her family on Wednesday, June 14,2023 at 10 am at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Rd., Waterbury.  To express your words of comfort and love for Deacon Mary and her family, you may do so on her Tribute Wall on this website.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Grace Baptist Scholarship Fund.
