Marilyn Ducey Obituary

Marilyn A. Ducey, 88, passed away on December 31st, 2024, in Southbury, CT with her family by her side. The daughter of Harold and Margaret (Dooley) O’Neill, Marilyn grew up in White Plains NY with her five siblings. After graduating from High School, Marilyn went to Secretarial school and secured a job as a secretary for the New York Railway at Grand Central Station. After she met her husband John Ducey, they moved to Jamaica, NY and started their family, eventually moving to West Milford, NJ to raise their four children. Marilyn supported her children through school, sports and scouts. Once the children were old enough, she got a job as the secretary at Marshall Hill Elementary School where she worked for many years; we are quite sure she ran the show while there!

Once retired, Marilyn and her husband John moved to Carolina Shores, NC. Marilyn was not one to sit still so she continued to work part-time at Toby’s Gift Shop, started a women’s golf club, volunteered her time, played cards with friends, and took many long walks on the beach. Marilyn had a strong faith, she attended mass regularly and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Shalotte, NC. But the most important thing to Marilyn was her family and friends. She was happiest when spending time with them, and she was always the life of the party. She was beloved by everyone who knew her due to her kindness, her generous, fun-loving spirit, and her great sense of humor, which she had right up until the end.

Marilyn is survived by her son Kevin Ducey, his wife Leslee and their three children, Ryan, Samantha and Taylor. Her daughter Karen Ducey, granddaughter Madison Kassel, sister’s Peg Fuchs and Kathy Newman, brother James O’Neill, sister-in-law’s Beth O’Neill and Carole O’Neill-Buie and too many nieces and nephews to mention. Marilyn is pre-deceased by her husband John, son Johnny, daughter Denise, her brother’s Bud and Tom, her brother-in-law Michael Fuchs and sister-in-law Linda O’Neill.

We know there is a big party in heaven right now where she is smiling, raising a glass and saying, I’ll drink to that!
