Marie Mercier Obituary

Marie T. Mercier, 94, of Waterbury passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on Friday, April 1, 2022 after a brief illness.  She was the widow of the late Leo Mercier.  Marie was born February 17, 1928 in Au Sable Forks, NY a daughter of the late Orrie and Eva (Bombard) Sanders.

Marie retired from the State of Ct where she worked as a mental health worker and the cottage 12 supervisor at Southbury Training School.  After retirement she and her husband Leo managed the Pachaug Marina and Campground in Griswold.  She continued working there up until the last few months, a total 29 years there.  It was her favorite place on earth.    She was a nature lover, had the gift of making lifelong friends easily and was a “can do” kind of lady and has always done things her way.

She was a master at jigsaw puzzles, word seek puzzles and playing the “slots” game on her computer and loved lobster (lots of it).  She kept in touch with distant friends via Facebook.   Marie was very talented at crocheting; her blankets were treasured gifts.  Family was everything to Marie.  Due to her declining health, her daughter Christine and son-in-law William were in the process of purchasing their new home whereby Marie would have the best of all worlds; a picturesque backyard, family steps away and the ability to watch her favorite birds, the cardinals. Unfortunately, Marie did not recover from her illness to come home and enjoy it.   Her love and joy of life, her genuine dedication to family and friends will be so terribly missed.

Left to cherish her love and memory are her daughter Christine and husband William Fahy of Waterbury, grandchildren Jennifer Rubbo of Torrington and Brandon (Heather) Rubbo of Torrington and great granddaughter Ashley Rubbo.  Marie leaves nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leo Mercier, sister Peggy Famiano and brothers Clarence and William Sanders.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday April 7, 2022 at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Friends and family may visit with Marie’s family on Thursday from 4 pm until the time of the service.  Burial will be private.  You are invited to share a fond memory, photo or words of comfort for Marie’s family on this website on her Tribute Wall.
