Maria Fernanda Cunha

Maria Fernanda Pereira Silva Cunha, of Naugatuck and formerly of Danbury, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on September 30, 2023.  Maria was the widow of Manuel De Deus Da Cunha.   Born April 22, 1936 in Tragos, Portugal, Maria was the daughter of the late Jose and Zulmira (Pereira) Da Silva. 

Maria was a hard-working family- centered woman who was the first to offer her assistance and the last to ask for help for herself.  She instilled these values in her daughter.  The last decade that Maria lived was all the more special because she spent the years with her daughter, son in law and granddaughters, being loving cared for.  The traditions and family stories of Maria’s life are honored and retold by her family.  She lived life simply, treasuring her time cooking, gardening, cooking for church functions and spending time with family.  Family was always her love and her joy.

She leaves to mourn her passing her loving daughter Celeste Rebimbas and her husband Joao “Johnnie” of Naugatuck and her treasured three granddaughters; Melissa, Gina and Sara as well as her sister Adelia Pereira of Portugal and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Maria now joins in heaven her husband Manuel, her brothers Jose and Manuel DaSilva and her sister Celeste Fonseca.

Arrangements:  Calling hours Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home , 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Mass of Christian Burial: Friday October 6, 2023 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury.    Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet directly at the church.   Interment will immediately follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave Ext., Danbury.
