Luz Mercedes Mendez

It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of our dear mother, sister, aunt & grandmother, Luz Mercedes Mendez, who left us peacefully on November 1, 2025.

Luz was the very definition of kindness and love. She had the softest heart, the warmest smile, and a laugh that could fill any room with joy. She made everyone feel seen, cared for, and loved always checking to make sure everyone was okay, no matter what she was going through herself. Her gentle spirit was a comfort to all who knew her.

Luz found happiness in life’s simplest blessings: a good conversation, a shared meal, or a quiet afternoon surrounded by family. But above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved each one deeply, with pride and tenderness that knew no bounds. Grandma’s love was steady and selfless — a kind of love that never fades.

Though we will miss her laughter, her hugs, and her caring presence, her spirit will forever live within us. Every time we share a laugh, offer a helping hand, or care for one another, we’ll be carrying her love forward. She leaves behind a family who adored her- her daughter, Rosa Perez (Pedro Hernandez), her grandchildren- Shara Marie Pichardo (Clarence Arrington), Francheska Texidor (Martin Alvarez), Giovani Lopez, and Selinayarie Texidor (Cyrell Nealy), her six great grandchildren, her sisters Carmen Mendez and Vilma Mendez, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She now joins her late parents, her son Arthur Lopez, and her brother Mario Mendez in Heaven. Her legacy of love, compassion, and laughter will live on in every heart she touched.

Rest gently, sweet wela. Your love will always be our greatest blessing.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect CT. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
