Lavina Angela (Cocchiola) Mantiglia, 91, formerly of Prospect passed away peacefully while surrounded in the love of her family in North Carolina where she lived with her daughter. She was the widow of the late Richard C. Mantiglia. Born December 22, 1932 in Waterbury, Lavina was the younger daughter of the late Salvatore and Lavina (Hayes) Cocchiola.
Lavina loved children and family. As an elementary school teacher, she motivated and empowered her students to learn and grow. Her five children knew no bounds to her love and devotion. Growing up, Lavina was raised on a farm. She was affectionately known as Chickie because she was the one to feed and care for the chickens. Later in life, Lavina enjoyed gardening, watching game shows, Yellowstone and trips to the beach or the casino. She loved Disney World and was a passionate fan of the Carolina Panthers. She sported the Carolina blue even in her fingernail polish.
Lavina leaves to cherish her love and memory her children: Cynthia S. (Mantiglia) and husband Michael Hart of NC with whom she made her home, Elizabeth F. (Mantiglia) and husband Dino Bartolucci of Prospect, and Allison A. (Mantiglia) and husband Christopher Ciucci of FL. At 91 years young, Lavina was the favorite grandmother to her 12 living grandchildren: Adam, Mary, and Ryan Hart, Joseph, Anthony, and Julianna Bartolucci, Susan and Richard Mantiglia, and Eric, Brandon, Catherine Ciucci, and Stephanie (Ciucci) Lingle. She also leaves her great grandchildren: Ian, Devin, Aaron, Mia, Maximus, and Jeremiah.
Lavina now joins in heaven her late husband Richard, her son Raymond Mantiglia, daughter Pamela Mantiglia, and granddaughters Kristen-Leigh and Lauren as well as her sister Alice (Cocchiola) Rodgers.
