Juanita Corazon (Asencio) Hilado

Juanita Corazon Hilado, 69, of Naugatuck entered peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 24, 1956, in the Philippines, Juanita courageously immigrated to the United States, where she began a life defined by devotion to her family, faith, and profession. Through determination and sacrifice, she worked tirelessly as a registered nurse and was able to sponsor visas for her loved ones so they too could begin a new life in America alongside her.  Juanita shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Levy Hilado. Together they built a loving home centered on faith, kindness, and family.

A compassionate and dedicated registered nurse, Juanita devoted more than 30 years of service in the ICU at Griffin Hospital before her retirement. Though she worked in the intensity of a high-stress medical environment, she carried herself with remarkable calm and grace. She never brought the burdens of work home, instead providing her family with comfort, wisdom, laughter, and steady love. Her quick wit, thoughtful insight, and gentle presence shaped the lives of all who knew her.  Juanita was a woman of deep and abiding faith.  Her faith guided her life and shined through her generosity, compassion, and selflessness toward others.

The holidays brought Juanita immense joy, especially Halloween and Christmas. She delighted in decorating her home with enthusiasm and warmth, creating magical memories for her family through her cooking, baking, and festive spirit. She treasured family road trips and adventures, always embracing the opportunity to explore new places together. She also enjoyed fishing, often sharing cherished moments with her husband, who lovingly baited her hook and patiently waited for a catch before proudly handing her the pole to reel in the “trophy fish.”

Above all else, family was the center of Juanita’s heart. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Levy Hilado Sr., her devoted children: Leonard Hilado and his wife Irina of Naugatuck, Levy Hilado Jr. of New Jersey, and Leslie Hilado of Naugatuck and her cherished grandchildren, Alex and Jacob. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Carmen Madayag of the Philippines and Lourdes Cuenco of California, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  Juanita was predeceased by her brothers, Dionisio, Salvador, and Robert, as well as by her parents, Salvador and Caridad (Grio) Asencio.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, May 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
