Joyce W. Howard

Joyce W. Howard, 84, of Bethany passed away peacefully Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital.  She was the devoted wife of Herbert Howard for over 63 years.  Joyce was born March 16, 1936 in New Haven to the late Russell P. Winter Sr. and Dorothy (Kramer) Winter.

The Winter family moved to their farm in Bethany in 1943.  Joyce attended grammar school in Bethany and graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1954.  She married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Howard in 1957 and started their family in Bethany.  Joyce worked as a secretary at the UI Company before getting married.  She later worked as a bookkeeper for LuBal’s Appliances for 28 years, Shopper’s World Appliances for 7 years and the Town of Bethany for the past 20 years right up to this past year.  She was a member of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Dept Auxiliary.  She served as the dispatcher for the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department prior to the implementation of the 911 system.  Joyce was a kind-hearted and deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, co-worker and friend.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband Herbert, daughter Cindy (Phil Jalbert) Howard and son Brian (Donna) Howard all of Bethany, grandchildren Stephanie (Alex Andreone), Jennifer, and Andrew Howard and Jennifer Sortini; great grandchildren Kaylena and Salena Estrada and Shannon Olivia, a twin sister Joan Montgomery of  Nampa, Idaho, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce was predeceased by her brothers Russell P. Winter Jr. and Bruce E. Winter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 am on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd. Prospect.
