Joseph "Jay" Lokis Obituary

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Joseph "Jay" John Lokis share the news of his passing on December 2, 2024, at home, after a long illness. Jay was born on April 25th 1969, son of the late Joseph Lokis and Gailann (Pepoy) Lokis. Jay was a certified eyelet tool maker for over 25 years and lived in Prospect.

Jay leaves behind his sister Melissa Sirois, niece Kaitlyn Gail Sirois and nephew Scott Sirois, and the love of his life Denise Riberio - all of Prospect. He also leaves his cousin Susan Armbruster, Aunt Marsha Curran, and husband Timothy of Naugatuck as well as nieces and nephews, Justin, Katrina, Daniel, Tyler, and Taylor, that were very important to him. Jay leaves many lifelong friends who were his second family, including many co-workers from Risdon, Solla and Anomatic Manufacturing.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman with a profound love of nature. He rescued any orphaned animals that came into his life, giving a home to squirrels, crows, and others in need of care. His dogs were important members of the family and he loved them like they were his children. Fishing and hunting were Jay’s great passions. He was seldom found without a fishing pole available “just in case”. Nieces and nephews all have cherished memories of times spent learning to fish and hunt with Uncle Jay. Though he had no children of his own, many times it was necessary to step into the role of a father figure for these family members, and he did love them as his own. He shared wisdom, his infinite love, and much laughter during these very special times.

Jay could live off the land. He had an amazing talent for foraging wild mushrooms and asparagus and had a huge thriving garden from which he shared his prized vegetables with anyone he encountered. Jay was vibrant and charismatic, a “larger than life” man with a gentle, caring heart. His family and friends were the light of his life-- everyone has a “Jay story”. He will be greatly missed by those were blessed to know him.

Friends and family are invited to visit Jay’s family on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect. A celebration of life service will begin at 7 pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
