Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Son and Grandfather
John Cardozo, 71, of Naugatuck died peacefully while surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne (Schuler) Cardozo for over 49 years. Born September 20, 1952 in Fogo, Cabo Verde John is one of 9 children of Manuel and Aida (Teixeira) Cardozo.
John was an operations manager in the banking industry and later enjoyed working at Home Depot. He was a wonderful loving father, husband and grandfather. While raising his children, he volunteered as a youth baseball coach. His favorite teams were the Yankees and NY Jets. John was a faithful supporter of his teams even when they were losing, despite his great boisterous chair-side coaching. John also enjoyed golf and was known to pack a great lunch in his golf bag. He certainly savored a good sandwich.
Papa, as the grandchildren called him, showered his grandkids with love. John adored his family and was very proud of each of his four children and five grandchildren. Family was the center of his universe. All the vibrant memories of time together with family and friends will hopefully bring comfort to all who were blessed to know John.
Left to honor his life and memory besides his wife Yvonne and father Manuel are his children; Michael and his wife Meghan of Torrington, Lisa Cardozo and her spouse Brent Cherhoniak of Woodbury, Karen Wolfert and her husband David of W. Hartford and Brian and his wife Tatiana of Branford as well as his cherished grandchildren Madison, Noah, Isabella, Maia and Mateo. He also leaves brothers and sisters: Sonny, Luca, Manny, Nick, George, Mica, Gigi and Edwina and a multitude of nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his mother Aida.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5pm to 7:30pm at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.
