Joann M. (Alteri) Pekar

Mrs. Joann M. Pekar, 80, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 13, 2026, at Milford Hospital.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on November 5, 1945, Joann was the daughter of Anthony Alteri. She spent much of her working life as a bank teller, a role she approached with dedication and warmth, before retiring.

Joann was the beloved wife of Mr. John Pekar, with whom she shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they traveled the world, visiting places that held special meaning to them, including Bermuda, Ireland, England, and Scotland to name a few. They also enjoyed cruising together to destinations such as Alaska and throughout Europe, creating many cherished memories along the way.

Joann had a joyful spirit and a deep appreciation for simple pleasures. She adored the Peanuts (especially Snoopy!) and delighted in collecting Snoopy merchandise of all kinds. She was also an avid doll collector and regularly attended toy expos and shows, including the New York Toy Expo, always eager to find the next special addition to her collection. Joann also loved walking along the beach, often making the trip for fresh clam chowder for herself and her husband John. Walking was one of her greatest joys; she preferred it over driving and could often be found strolling miles along the shoreline, finding beauty in every beach she visited.

Joann is survived by her loving husband, John Pekar; her sister, Annmarie Marinaco and her husband, of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her love of travel and collecting, and the happiness she found in everyday moments.

Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
