Janet "Judy" C. Fiengo, 94, formerly of Prospect, passed away peacefully
Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Elim Park Cheshire. Judy spread joy to all who knew her by sharing her gift of music.
Judy was born August 18, 1926 in Waterbury, daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Carley) Chatfield. She taught herself to play the piano at a very young age, perfecting her talent with practice, dedication and enthusiasm. Judy was the organist and Choir Director for more than 60 years for Prospect Congregational Church; she instilled the love of music and Christ to many parishioners young and old. Judy taught many people to sing, having led many cantatas and musical programs over the years. She led the Children's Choir, Adult Choir and Bell Choir at the Prospect Congregational Church; she organized the Housewives Choir; played at the Prospect Senior Center, nursing homes, and brought joy to those listening to her play at Elim Park as a volunteer and then resident. Judy also was the Choir Director at the Naugatuck United Methodist Church for a period of time. She played the glockenspiel for the Second Company Governor's Foot Guard for many years and enjoyed marching in parades and participating in events in full-dress uniform.
Judy loved being busy; she was the first one in the pool in the summer and the first one out the door with a sled in a snowstorm. Her greatest love was her family. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her love and memory are her daughter, Beverly Allen, of Woodbridge, and her grandchildren, Cynthia (Kevin) Delaney, of Branford; Matthew Allen, of Enfield; Thomas Allen, of Prospect; and Melissa Allen (James Brandt), of Woodbridge; her great-grandchildren, Colin, Amanda, Matthew, Carley, William, and Joseph. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and her stepson, Henry Fiengo, of South Carolina and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Judy was one of nine siblings. She was predeceased by her sisters Arrol Drew, Jean Chatfield, Bernice Milton, and Eleanor Chatfield, and also her brothers William, John, David, and Richard Chatfield.
All services will be held at a future date when the current COVID pandemic restrictions are lifted. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home is honored to be assisting Judy's family with funeral arrangements.
