James (Jim) C. Tessier, 81, of Prospect, CT, formerly of Southbury, passed away peacefully at home on January 21st surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on January 14th, 1943 to Franklyn and Kathleen Tessier in Worcester, MA. He grew up with his sister Susan and brother Richard in Waterbury and Naugatuck. Jim graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Nathanial Hawthorne College in New Hampshire. He later received an Associate’s Degree in Data Processing from Waterbury State Technical School.
Jim met his future bride Donna Marie Capobianco the summer after high school through a group of friends. One of those friends was Joe Carrubba, whose relationship with Jim truly defined the meaning of a lifelong best friend.
Donna and Jim were married in June 1967; Donna had just begun her career as a Registered Nurse at Waterbury Hospital and Jim started as an accountant at American Brass Company. In 1971, Jim and Donna built a home in Southbury, CT where they lived for 50 years while raising their two daughters, Dana and Dawn. Jim retired from Yale University’s Information Technology Department in 2010.
Jim’s daughters were his greatest joy. His favorite thing to talk about was how proud he was of them, their accomplishments, their families and of course what the weather and traffic would be for any of their upcoming travels. Later in life, he devoted that same energy and pride to his seven grandsons. Whether it was giving them a ride on his tractor, watching them swim in his pool or discussing politics, he loved spending time with them. He was so proud of the young men they have become.
In addition to his family, Jim’s passions were tending to his yard, swimming pool and mowing his lawn, which he did with great care and precision; golfing, maintaining his 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and summer vacations with family and friends on Cape Cod.
Jim was truly one of a kind….with a deeply empathetic manner, the highest of morals, a great devotion to his family and while he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years Donna, daughters Dana (Jake) Battiston of Avon, CT, Dawn (Jeff ) O’Shaughnessy of West Hartford, CT; grandsons Andrew, Blake, Griffin, Patrick, Brooks, Kyle and Colin; sister Susan Tessier Fritz of Georgia, brother Richard Tessier of Woodbury, CT, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends. Jim is also survived by two angels who lovingly cared for him at home over the past 2 ½ years - James Corden and Beth Prigioni to whom the family is forever grateful.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.
