Herminio Dias

Herminio Dias, 79, of Prospect passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love his family on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Autumn Lake Healthcare.  He was the devoted husband of Natalie (Furtado) Dias for 55 wonderful years.  Herminio was born August 18, 1943 in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal.  He was a son of the late Herminio and Ermelinda (Borge) Dias.  He was the last living child of their fourteen children.

Herminio was a hardworking man of integrity who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.  He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Before immigrating to the United States, Herminio served his native country of Portugal in the army during the war against Angola.  After his move to Naugatuck, he became a toolmaker and worked for over 40 years at New England Die Company before his retirement.

Family was everything to Herminio.  They would make annual family trips to Fall River, Mass. on Good Friday to purchase Portuguese specialties for Easter.  He enjoyed country music, watching wrestling and was an avid Yankees fan.  His grandchildren adored their “Avo”.  Husband, father, grandfather:  Herminio loved each and every one of those roles and treasured his family beyond measure.  He leaves a wonderful legacy of dedication to family.

Besides his loving wife Natalie, Herminio is survived by his son Richard Dias and wife Jennifer of Wolcott and his daughter Michele Clifford and her husband Kevin of Prospect as well as his four grandchildren; Julia and Natalie Dias and Tyler and Brandon Clifford.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury.  Calling hours will be on Thursday from 9 am to 11 am at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  You are invited to share your memories, photos and words of support for the Dias family at www.prospectmemorial.com
