Henry A. Dean Jr., 73, of Prospect died on October 25, 2023. He was the son of the late Deacon Henry A Dean Sr. and Helen Dean. He is survived by his wife Elaine, who he married in 1977 at St. Paul’s Church and their 2 children, Christine Saunders of Prospect, CT and Stephen Saunders of Grayson, GA.
Henry was born in Waterbury, CT on December 9, 1949 and grew up in Naugatuck CT. He graduated from St Francis school and Naugatuck High School class of 1967. He later attended Curry College in Milton MA. He graduated from University of New Haven with his BA. He went on to graduate school at UCONN School of Social Work to complete his MSW.
He was employed at the Connecticut Mental Health Center as a Psychiatric Social Worker and then went on to Aetna and worked in the Software Development and Training Area. While at Aetna he worked as the North East Patient Management manager. He then went on to Training in the Software Development area and traveled to many of the Aetna field offices throughout the country to train the nurses on the new computer releases.
Growing up in Naugatuck, Henry loved baseball and played in Peter J Foley Little League. His father was able to get World Series tickets and he attended 1962 San Francisco Giants and 1964 St Louis Cardinals against NY Yankees at Yankee Stadium. He has been a Yankee baseball fan ever since. In addition, he was a fan of the Boston Bruins. Upon his retirement from Aetna he spent his time with his twin granddaughters, the lights of his life, Eva Predom and Erin Predom. He skied many resorts in the Northeast and Western states as well as in Italy and Switzerland. He skied Cortina, Innsbruck, Courmayeur, Chamonix- Mt. Blanc, and Kitzbuhel. Henry enjoyed both cruising and flying to the Caribbean as a couple.
He was a patient at Lever Cancer Center and was treated by the wonderful and compassionate nurses there since 2019.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect, CT 06712. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10 am at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd., Prospect, CT 06712. All who are attending mass are asked to meet directly at the church.
