Giuseppa Gargano, 89, of Plantsville formerly Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, and is now reunited with her late husband Lorenzo, whom she has missed dearly since his passing 14 years ago. Born November 11, 1934, in Palermo, Italy, Pia was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Carmela (Scontrino) Pernice.
Wife, mother, and Nonna were the most important roles in Pia’s life. Her world centered around her family and she enjoyed cooking. Seven fishes on Christmas Eve, pasta, meatballs, and homemade sauce were among the favorites. She worked as a machinist for Eyelet Crafters for many years before her retirement.
Lorenzo and Pia shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2010. Together they raised daughter Carmela and sons Joseph and Andrew. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To cherish her memory, she leaves her son Joseph and wife Michele Gargano of Naugatuck, daughter Carmela and husband Brandon Avery of Prospect, son Andrew and wife Jane Gargano of Wolcott, eight grandchildren, Katie (and husband Daniel), Henry, Elizabeth (and fiancé Rob), Tyler (and wife Melanie), Emma (and fiancé Matthew), Lauren, Joshua, and Collin, and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Declan, and Noah. She also leaves her sister Adalgisa Pernice and husband Domenico Santoro of Italy, and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Pia now joins her husband Lorenzo, her daughter Maria, her brother, and her sister in heaven.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Pia on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd, Prospect. All those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Internment will immediately follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 669 Plank Rd., Watertown.
