Gerard J. Bouchard, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 1, 1936, in St. Agatha, Maine, the son of the late Hubald and Annie (Rossignol) Bouchard.
One of seventeen children, Gerard grew up in Maine, where he learned the value of hard work and family- values he carried with him throughout his life. He later lived in Connecticut, Florida, and eventually returned to Connecticut as his health began to decline.
Gerard was an incredibly hardworking man who loved to keep his hands busy. Whether gardening, caring for his lawn, or fixing things around the house, he always found purpose in staying active. He built a long and respected career as a machine mechanic, repairing manufacturing equipment in factories and taking pride in his skill and reliability.
A true people person, Gerard loved conversation and connection. He had a gift for making others feel heard and welcomed. While living in Florida, he became affectionately known as “The Mayor” of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand, share a story, or listen to anyone in need.
Above all else, Gerard cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren lovingly knew him as “Grampy,” a title he wore with pride.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen (Martin) Bouchard of Prospect; his daughter, Sandra Norton and her husband Scott of Naugatuck; and his sons, Brian Bouchard of Prospect, Gerard Bouchard Jr. of Watertown, and Richard Bouchard of Waterbury. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Cox of Waterbury, and his cherished grandchildren: Beckylynn Dileo, Robert Castro, Jennifer Lee Bouchard, Ryan Michael Bouchard, Megan Crystal Bouchard, Mark Bouchard, Linda Bouchard, Amanda Bouchard, Sara Coleman, and Richard Bouchard Jr., along with several great-grandchildren. Gerard is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on January 28, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow, beginning at 6:30 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM.
Gerard will be remembered for his kindness, his work ethic, his generosity of spirit, and the love he gave so freely to family, friends, and neighbors. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Gerard and assist his family during this difficult time. Please leave your condolences, memories, and photos on Gerard's Tribute Wall on this page.
