Former Brookfield, CT resident Fredric (Rick) Fearn Jr. passed away on November 30th, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer. Rick was a devoted brother, husband, father, and “Papa”.
He was born January 2nd, 1951 to Frederick and Louise Fearn in Danbury, CT and grew up on Southern Boulevard with his younger brother Darrell. Rick enjoyed going to summertime stock car races at the Great Danbury State Fair with his brother and cousins and seeing his father run the fairgrounds.
Rick attended Avon Old Farms School and graduated in 1968. That summer he met the love of his life, Marilyn Sparrow at Central Christian Church in Danbury. He then attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT and graduated in 1973. In June of that year, he married Marilyn where they had met and made their home in Sherman and later in Brookfield for 41 years. Together they raised three boys: Eric, Ethan, and Evan.
As a young teenager, Rick started working for Leahy’s Fuels, Inc. painting gas tanks and doing office chores. He worked his way up to fuel oil delivery manager over a 44-year career.
Rick spent many years vacationing in Rockport, MA particularly around the July 4th holiday – a family tradition -- thoroughly enjoying seafood dinners and spending time on the beach. After a long career at Leahy’s, Rick & Marilyn retired to a wonderful retirement community in Prospect, CT.
During retirement, Rick happily picked up many trophies at classic car events while showing off his 1966 red convertible Mustang. He could be found watching the New York Yankees and taking family trips during the summer months. In winter months, Rick enjoyed cheering on UConn Huskies basketball teams. As “Papa”, he set up his childhood trains for his grandchildren to enjoy and often added to his expansive growing Coca-Cola collection.
Rick is survived by his wife Marilyn and brother Darrell, both of Prospect, CT; his son Eric (Erin) of Collierville, TN; his son Ethan (Jacqueline) of Norwalk, CT; his son Evan (Chelsea) of Raleigh, NC; and his grandchildren Brooklyn, Hudson, Austin, and Hayden.
A celebration of life and services will be arranged in Danbury for his birthday, January 2nd, 2026. All services are at the convenience of the family.
Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Rick and assist his family during their grief journey. Please leave your condolences and memories for Rick's family on his Tribute Wall on this page.
