Dorothy A. (Steponaitis) Romanuk, 98, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024 while surrounded in the love of her family. Dorothy was the widow of her beloved husband of 51 years, Alexander Romanuk. Born October 29, 1925 in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Krouch) Steponaitis.
Dorothy was an outgoing, hardworking, charitable woman who dedicated her life to her family, church and community. She was a generous woman who loved children. She gave regularly to Easter Seals, St. Jude’s and the Special Olympics. Her children were her life. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband at night as a machinist to be sure that her family had the extra funds for a wonderful vacation every year. As a very active member of St. Anthony’s parish, she was a member of the Ladies Guild and would prepare the altar cloths and clean the altar every week. She was a bowler, a Cub Scout leader, PTO member and member of the Evergreen Club and worked tirelessly with the Special Olympics. She was very creative and would sell her creations of wreaths, baskets and such at the bazaars to benefit the charities she favored. She also loved tending her roses and flower beds.
Her love, memory and her legacy will be cherished by her children: Barbara and husband Mark Baker of Ma., Mary Stover of Cheshire, Dorothy L. Romanuk of Prospect, Cathy Romanuk of Naugatuck, Mark Romanuk and his fiancée Dori Gugliotti of Prospect and her grandchildren: Carrie Spagnola and husband William, Brian Hansen and wife Donnell of MN, Colleen Paulson and husband Jason of NY., Rebecca Roberts and husband Michael of Ma., Jason Sills of Waterbury, Amy Baker of Ma., and Jamie Sills of VT and Claire Stover, her two great grandchildren and many nieces , nephews and cousins. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Alexander Romanuk, her daughter Debra Romanuk, brothers: Edward, Francis, Raymond and George Steponaitis and her sister Leona Nodine
