Dorothy Glisson Obituary

Dorothy Marie “Dot” Glisson, age 62, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, in Arlington, Virginia. A devoted nurse, educator, and woman of unwavering faith, Dot’s life was a testament to compassion, perseverance, and service.

Born on December 9, 1962, in Columbia, South Carolina, Dot was the beloved daughter of Willie Glisson and Clara (Mack) Glisson. She spent her formative years in Waterbury, Connecticut, where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1980. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue nursing at Howard University and later complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at the University of the District of Columbia.

Dot began her career as a bedside nurse in hospitals across Washington D.C. and Maryland. Her dedication to patient care and natural leadership abilities propelled her into administrative roles within hospital systems after earning her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Walden University. In the later years of her career, she found profound fulfillment teaching aspiring nurses at Bowie State University. Inspired by this new chapter in her professional journey, she embarked on doctoral studies in nursing education—an endeavor that reflected both her commitment to lifelong learning and her desire to uplift future generations of caregivers.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dot was known for her kind heart, sharp intellect, and resilient spirit. She had a deep love for travel and was delighted in exploring new places. The theater brought her joy and inspiration, while reading offered moments of reflection and discovery.

Christianity was the cornerstone of Dot’s life. She lived with grace and humility, modeling the teachings of Jesus through acts of kindness and active participation in her church community.

Dot is lovingly remembered by her daughter Lauren Glisson; brother Craig A. Glisson; nephew Craig A. Glisson; nieces Sascha L. Glisson and Annette Burns-Glisson; four cherished aunts—Carolyn (Mack) Dickens, Peggie (Mack) Jenkins, Darlene Glisson, and Velma (Glisson) Caldwell; uncle Donald Mack; as well as many cousins who were dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willie Glisson and Clara (Mack) Glisson.

Dorothy “Dot” Glisson leaves behind a legacy rooted in compassion and education—a life that touched countless patients, students, colleagues, friends, and family members alike. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
