Remembering David Mark Gliserman
July 7, 1941-Sept 1, 2024
Born to Dr. Edward Gliserman and Elizabeth Vaughn onJuly 7th, 1941, David was the younger brother to Judith, “Soames” Gliserman. He spent his childhood and young adulthood in Danbury CT where he later married Lucinda Fairfield Burr. In 1974 the couple had a daughter, Anne M. Gliserman.
Many stories could be printed here, however, his family will remember David with just one; Coming to the rescue on a crisp Autumn day in 1978, when a simple hike turned awry. Wife and daughter had lost their direction, and found themselves lost off trail in a swampy bog. With the sun quickly setting, it seemed that all hope was lost. But then, just as the sky lost it’s golden glow… down the path came David (aka Daddy) calling out, making his way toward his wayward family with a shotgun slung over his left shoulder. He was the hero that evening!
David remarried in 1990 to Merry Marrelli. After his career led the couple to Austin, Texas for a short stint, they re-settled in Westport, Connecticut. Sadly, David was widowed in the year 2000 when his wife, Merry, passed away suddenly from a blood born infection.
In his later years, David’s longtime partner, Jan Hodgson was his confidant and adventure buddy. They enjoyed traveling and shared a love of photography, bird watching, cooking and spoiling their fur-baby cat, Tessa.
David is remembered for his zest for the outdoors. He enjoyed Golf and loved hiking, exploring new trails and showing off his driving skills, ascending the heights of Mt Washington in NH. He was introduced to a set of small islands off the coast of Maine in the 70’s, which remained a special place with fond memories for all the years to follow.
Lesser known, was his talent for writing short stories and poetry. Outspoken on certain topics, he also possessed a quiet passion that was internalized at times.
He is survived by his longtime Partner, Jan Hodgson, first wife Lucinda F. Burr and Daughter and Son-in-law, Anne and James Houghton.
With much sadness, we wish David a farewell from this physical world and send him with love and light… and a nice cold Martini, into the next.
