Daniel Wheeler Sr. Obituary

Daniel B Wheeler Sr, of Prospect passed away unexpectedly at his home while holding the hand of his loving wife Teresa (Baranauskas) Wheeler of fifty-one years.  Dan was born December 2, 1951, son of the late Charles and Theresa (Choquette) Wheeler.

Dan was a caring man who spent his life in dedication to his family, community, and country.  After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Dan went on to earn his degree from Mattatuck Community College.  As a correctional officer for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections, Dan advanced  his career by becoming a  counselor, earning the respect of his fellow officers and inmates alike.  His matter-of-fact, openly accepting personality bridged the communication gap to open up and gain trust  with his clients. After 21 years, he ventured into an early retirement, giving him the opportunity to enjoy his lifelong hobbies and try different jobs to fulfill his aspirations. He joined the Renegade Pigs Motorcycle Club where he went on many bike runs and gave back to his community through various events. The most memorable ride was out to Sturgis, SD with his brother, adding to their adventures spanning the country from Key West to the Hoover Dam and even rolling down the Las Vegas strip.

Dan was an avid hunter and a member of the Prospect Gun Club, spending countless hours cooking and working at the annual Game Dinner. As a Lifetime Member of the Volunteer Fire Dept of Prospect, Dan pledged his time and efforts to the people of his community. Though he lived in Prospect for most of his life, he had a special place in his heart for where he came from. Dan loved Vermont. He purchased property and built a small camp, visiting as often as possible. He lovingly called it Wheeler Camp or just Camp and enjoyed sharing it with friends and family, and especially his favorite 4-legged companion, Harley, who was always by his side.

Left to cherish his love and memory besides his loving wife Terri are his children: Julie Wheeler of Prospect, Marie Lajoie and her husband Shawn of New Hampshire and Daniel Wheeler Jr. of Waterbury. He is also survived by his brother Curtis Wheeler of New Hampshire and his cherished grandchildren:  Logan, Elijah, Elyse, Olivia, Lucas and Connor, as well as many other close friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd, Prospect.  Memorial services will begin at 1pm followed by Military Honors.  Procession to the Prospect Fire House for Dan’s final ride will immediately follow military honors.
