Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Carpenter
Claude Michaud, 82 of Southington and formerly of Prospect, passed away peacefully while enfolded in the love of his family on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Midstate Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Marguerite (Nadeau) Michaud for 62 wonderful years. Born May 31, 1942 in Lac Eagle, Quebec, Canada, he was one of ten children of the late Camille and Ivonne (Theriault) Michaud.
Claude was a talented carpenter who built his own home in Prospect as well as the homes of several of his neighbors. He was a member of the Local 210 Carpenters Union. Throughout the years he built and sheetrocked several of the homes in the Prospect and Southington areas. He retired as a maintenance manager for all the buildings owned by the Nielson Company of Darien after 26 years of dedicated service. He was a brilliant mind who loved to “tinker” in his shed. He invented many systems to make difficult tasks easier. Claude’s imagination and talents of building led to many unique creations.
One could not ask for a more wonderful husband and father. Every day since their wedding on July 7, 1962, Claude told Marguerite “I love you” over the more than 62 years that followed. His family was his greatest joy and the recipient of his dedication and boundless love. Many sweet memories were made camping with his three children: Denis, Carole and Brian, in the bucolic hills of Lone Oaks and traveling in the station wagon for holidays with family in Canada. As years went by, Marguerite and Claude traveled as far as Paris, Alaska, Hawaii and seasonally to Yuma, Arizona. Claude enjoyed playing pool with his sons, playing the accordion and harmonica and spending time with fellow members at the Franco-American Social Club of Waterbury. Many days he could be found working in his workshop or spending time with six adoring grandchildren.
Claude leaves to cherish his love and memory, beside his wife Marguerite, his sons Denis of Terryville and Brian and his wife Dawn of Waterbury and his daughter Carole Matott and her husband Chris of Prospect as well as his grandchildren Amy Matott and Emily and her husband Ben Fortin, Kyle and Kayla Michaud, and Matt Michaud and Matthew Swensson. He also leaves his brother Lucien and sisters Lucille Gagne, Jeannine Gagne all from Canada and Diane Morrow of Maine. Claude is predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
