Carol Kovaly Obituary

Carol Kovaly died June 29, 2024 after a brief illness. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children. Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband Alvin. She is survived by her son Alan (wife Kim) of Biddeford, Maine; daughter Karen (husband David) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughter Lauren (husband John) of Waterboro, Maine; brother Louis (wife Mildred); sister Anna (husband George); sister Angela; and her Great Aunt Laura, all of New Jersey.

Carol was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1938 and was the fourth of five children born of Italian-immigrant parents. Carol had wonderful memories of growing up with her tight knit siblings, the house packed with family and friends every holiday, the delightful smell of her mom’s cooking, and helping her dad in his shoe-making workshop. She was a born athlete with a competitive spirit. She loved ballet and roller skating and was the ping pong champion of her school.

Carol attended Newark Secretarial School. She later met her husband Alvin in 1957 at Monroe Wheel, Inc. where she worked as an account secretary and he was a sales associate. They married in 1960 in Lyndhurst, NJ. When Al was offered a job with Uniroyal in 1971, they relocated to Cheshire with their young children. Carol has lived there ever since.

Although it was a hard move leaving all her family and friends, Carol’s warm, fun, and outgoing spirit helped her make fast friends. She was actively involved in the Newcomers Club, serving as Civic Committee Chairwoman and an active member of the Gourmet Club. She started her own wall-papering business and had various other jobs over the years.

Carol was an avid tennis player and member of Copper Valley Tennis and Swim Club for decades. Her tennis friends dubbed her “Queen of the Lob.” She had a green thumb, was an amazing cook, a great dancer, loved to entertain, and thrived on social outings with her friends. Her competitive spirit showed on the tennis court and at her many card-playing groups over the years.

Carol loved her family with all of her heart. She was giving, beautiful, tender hearted, kind and had a fun-loving spirit. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Bridget of Sweden Church in Cheshire, CT on Saturday, July 27. Please speak directly to the family for all service information. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the form of a check to Cheshire Senior Center.
