Brian Flynn Obituary

Brian Robert Flynn, of Wolcott, beloved husband, father, grandfather and respected community leader, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Brian was born on April 27, 1944, the son of the late Francis Flynn and Ruth Coyle Flynn. He proudly served as a member of the United States Army National Guard and was a lifelong professional in banking and finance. He was the devoted husband of Lynn A. (Nealon) Flynn, with whom he shared a remarkable life and more than 56 years of marriage. Their partnership was the foundation of a family defined by love, commitment, and shared values.

Brian earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton and went on to complete his Master’s degree from Northwestern University School of Trust. He enjoyed a distinguished career as a trust officer in private banking for more than 40 years. He began his career at Third National Bank in Scranton, Pennsylvania later working at First National Bank in New Haven and spent the majority of his professional life at Colonial Bank, with subsequent mergers, in Waterbury before ultimately retiring from Webster Bank. Following his retirement from banking, Brian pursued a second career as a realtor with Smedes Reality and Fercodini Properties.

Widely respected as a trusted financial expert, Brian was known not only for his knowledge, but for his generosity, integrity, and compassion. He gave freely of his time in service to his community, serving for 22 years as Treasurer of the Silas Bronson Library. He served as Treasurer for Learning Ally (formerly Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic) in New Haven. Brian also served on the boards of the Waterbury Boys & Girls Club and Riverside Cemetery. He also volunteered for the East Mountain Athletic Association, where he coached baseball and handled financial reporting. He was a lifetime member of the Bristol Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

Brian was an avid golfer who loved the game. He was a long-time member of the Tues. night Colonial Bank Golf League where he developed many close and lasting friendships.

First and foremost, Brian was a family man—a loving husband and devoted father to his two sons and grandchildren. He shared a particularly special bond with his granddaughter, who lovingly called him “Bri Bri.”

Brian leaves to cherish his love and memory besides his beloved wife Lynn A. Flynn, his son Kevin Flynn of Wolcott and Virginia; his granddaughter Brooke Flynn of Virginia, his grandchild Margot Flynn of Pennsylvania; and his sister Francine Bobal and her husband Robert of Pennsylvania and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Brian W. Flynn; his brother Thomas Flynn and his sister Susan Plummer.
