After 95 years of love, family and service, Bernice (Sherman) Sullivan, formerly of Prospect went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2025 at Vitas St. Mary’s. Bernice now joins her husband of 61 years, William Sullivan Sr. Born June 18,1930, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Marguerite (Behlman) Sherman, Sr. Bernice was the loving mother of Dennis Sullivan and his wife Donna of Oakville, Dr. Brian Sullivan of Harwinton, William Sullivan Jr. and his wife Nicole of Burlington, and daughter in law Donna Sullivan of Vermont. Bernice was predeceased by her son Shawn Sullivan. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Kelly Sullivan of Naugatuck, Christopher Sullivan and his wife Lucy of Maine, Kathleen and her husband Ricky Meade Jr of Vermont, Timothy Sullivan of Hamden and Meghan Sullivan of Washington D.C., as well as her five great grandchildren: Brenden Mangalee of Naugatuck, Garrett Meade of Vermont, Logan Meade of Vermont, Carter Sullivan Maine and Baxter Sullivan of Maine. She is also mourned by her niece Laurene and her husband Donald Mantz of Wolcott and her niece Robin Sullivan of Watertown. Bernice was predeceased by her brother Walter Sherman, Jr., and nephew, Walter Sherman, III.
Bernice was a woman of strong faith and served her church, her community and the young. She was a Sunday School teacher at Christ Episcopal Church of Waterbury for many years and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America for over five decades which included serving as a District Commissioner. She was a Beaver Award recipient, Scouting’s highest award for adult leaders. Bernice was adventurous. She traveled the United States extensively with her family and particularly enjoyed her journeys to Ireland. She was a wonderful cook and baker, loving to custom decorate the cakes she baked and was a caring hostess to her family dinners. Her love of music was eclectic from Big Band to Kenny Rogers to the Irish Tenors and of course her beloved hymns. Bernice leaves a beautiful tapestry of love, service, laughter and faith for her family to cherish and carry on.

Arrangements: Visitation Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd, Prospect. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 10am at Christ Episcopal Church, 2030 E. Main St, Waterbury with burial to immediately follow at Prospect Cemetery. The funeral home will be open to receive guests at 9 am with procession to church departing at 9:30am.
