Audrey Lou (Rogers) Buckner, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT at the age of 92. Audrey now joins George, her beloved husband who passed away in 2018. Together for 63 years, they had raised a loving family at their home on Christine Drive in Huntington. She spent her recent years living at Wesley Heights in Shelton enjoying visits from old friends along with jigsaw puzzles, Rummikub, reading autobiographies, and watching UCONN basketball (Go Huskies!) with new friends.
Audrey was born in Bridgeport on February 8, 1933 to Oran (Pop) and Nora (Ma) Rogers. She graduated from Harding High School, where she first met George. After 2 years at Beaver College in Pennsylvania, she transferred to The University of Connecticut where she earned a degree in Sociology, graduating in 1954. Audrey and George were married on June 18, 1955 and started a family. Despite all the hard work required to raise 4 children, Audrey found time to do extensive volunteer work with both the local food bank and her church, St. Paul’s in Huntington.
The family enjoyed regular camping trips, hiking, and getting together with friends for an outing or to play games. Scrabble was a favorite, and Audrey usually won despite a reputation for taking much more time than anyone should to complete her turn. Another love George and Audrey shared was ice cream. Wherever they travelled, they made sure to fit in a stop at the local parlour where George would have the large cone and Audrey would get the sampler bowl…one scoop each of 5 flavors! There were extra smiles if Butter Crunch was an option. Among her interests that George did not share were yoga, the beach, candy corn, staying up to watch Johnny Carson every night, and not waking up before 9:30 any morning.
Through the years, the family loved and cared for many pets. At times you might meet rabbits, guinea pigs, or even a boa constrictor at Christine drive. Mostly though, there were cats, often 4 at a time. Cats are the easiest pets to care for when you are off traveling every weekend, Audrey would say when someone would float the idea of a puppy. She remained calm and caring through it all. Later, with an empty nest Audrey and George were entertained by the antics of a handsome orange tabby called Nines, whom they adored.
George and Audrey’s four daughters Robin Skowronski, Sheri Morrison (Jack), Karen Lee Searles (Rodney) and Wendy Jones (Ed) and their families, including eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way), have been blessed with the kindest, most patient and supportive mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. Grandma Buck, as she was known, was always ready to rejoice at our accomplishments, listen without judgement when we spoke of struggles, and laugh with us at life’s silliness. She had a ready smile that made you know how much you were loved. We are grateful that she enjoyed such a full and happy life, and will miss her very much.
Audrey will be put to rest in a private family ceremony. A celebration of her life for all those who loved her will take place on a future date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to one of her favorite organizations which include The Table, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Special Olympics, and your local animal shelter.
Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Audrey and assist her family during their grief journey. Please leave your condolences and memories for Audrey's family on her Tribute Wall on this page.
