Anne V. (Bartok) Clarke, age 89, passed away on October 12, 2024. Born in Connecticut, Anne spent her final years in Wallingford, Oxford, and Southbury. She was the beloved daughter of Ann and John Bartok. Growing up in several New York state towns, she ultimately settled in Yonkers, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School and Berkeley Secretarial School in White Plains.
Anne began her career as a secretary for WNBC in Rockefeller Plaza, a role she held for three years. Her passion for education led her to pursue further studies, earning a degree in Elementary Education from Western Connecticut State Teachers College, a Master’s in Reading from Southern Connecticut State College, and Reading Certification from the University of Bridgeport. She taught at Mary I. Johnston School and Middlebury Elementary School in Regional School District 15, eventually becoming a Reading Consultant at MES. Anne found great joy in her work, building lasting relationships with students and colleagues.
In retirement, Anne enjoyed a vibrant life, immersing herself in her love of gardening as a member of the Oxford Garden Club, traveling, coaching Oxford Special Olympics skiers and swimmers, and cherishing time with her family.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John A. Bartok and Mathias S. Bartok, and her sister, Amy Namnoum.
Anne’s memory lives on through her daughter, VickiAnn Manville (Richard) of Southbury; her three sons, Harry Jensen (Victoria) of Beacon Falls, Jon Jensen (Donna) of Cheshire, and Erik Jensen (Lynn) of Prospect; along with 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several cousins.
