Amalia de Jesus Teixeira Lage Obituary

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Sister and Aunt

Amalia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at home.  A woman of devout Catholic faith, Amalia prayed the rosary every day, her beads worn from the frequent touch of her fingertips.  Her family was the center of her life.  She instilled in each of her 7 children a commitment to and love of family, a strong work ethic and a deep faith in God.  Her talented hands were never still, either stitching her embroidery or hemming the final touches on her creations.  She was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her own clothing.

Born July 7, 1933, Amalia was a daughter of the late Nicolau Teixeira and Emilia de Jesus Teixeira.  Born in Portugal, she met her husband Manuel Lage and fell in love. They were blessed with 37 years of marriage before his passing.   Amalia traveled back to her native country as often as possible.  She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Manuel, whom she missed dearly over the years. Amalia enjoyed Portuguese accordion music and spent many hours raptly listening to her husband play.

Amalia leaves to cherish her love and memory her children Manuela (Joe) Alves of Naugatuck, Lisa Lage of Waterbury, Lurdes (Carlos) Da Costa of Middlebury, Ana (Jose) Cotas of Prospect, Oscar (Ana) Lage of Waterbury, Beta (Paulo) Da Costa of Prospect and Isabel Lage of Prospect.  She also leaves her cherished 14 grandchildren: Melissa, Steven, Jason, Michael, David, Brian, Stephanie, Suzy, Lilyann, Branden, Jarret, Paulo, Manuel and Johnny as well as three great grandchildren.  Amalia also leaves three living siblings and many nieces and nephews.  Beside her husband Manuel, Amalia is predeceased by three siblings.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 9am to 11am at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30am to Our Lady of Fatima Church 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury for Amalia’s funeral mass at 12pm..  Amalia will be laid to rest in Portugal.  Prospect Memorial / The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements and to care for the Lage family during their time of grief.  You are invited to share your condolences on Amalia’s tribute wall on this website.
