Alton Meggett Obituary

Alton Meggett “Al” passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024. He was born on September 10,1935 in Chapin, SC, to Riley Elliott and Louvenia (Bowers) Meggett.

He grew up in Oliver, PA, and attended North Union High School in Uniontown. After graduation he eventually settled in Brooklyn, NY, where he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. After moving to Waterbury, he worked for many years as a crossing guard at Chase Elementary School.

Alton was a ministerial servant in the Waterbury South Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved talking about Jehovah God and Jesus Christ and he had strong faith in the promise of a resurrection to life on a Paradise earth.

Alton enjoyed cooking and was always excited to try new things. He also liked watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets. He was a caring, thoughtful, kind, and generous person. His laugh and smile will be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Garlina; son Isiah; grandchildren
Rocky, Wakia, Marquita (MacDanny), Destiny and Christien; eight great-grandchildren; sister Lillie (Douglas); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Alton is preceded in death by his parents, fifteen siblings, and daughter Alice Marie Lyles.

A memorial service will be held by his family on Sunday, November 10, 2024, 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 233 Stonefield Dr., Waterbury, CT 06705. Please contact the family directly for more information and all questions.
