In Loving Memory of Alfonso Gabriel Balarezo
June 5, 1973 – October 9, 2025
With broken hearts, we share the sudden and devastating loss of Alfonso Gabriel Balarezo, who passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2025. Born on June 5, 1973, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Alfonso was the cherished son of Gabriel Balarezo and Silvia (Guzman) Sullo.
Alfonso lived his life with passion, humor, and a deep love for the people around him. A proud father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that will never be forgotten.
He worked incredibly hard as a heavy equipment operator in construction, a job that suited his strength and determination. But what defined Alfonso wasn’t his work- it was his heart. Alfonso truly had a heart of gold. He had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcomed, seen, and loved. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with a joke, a smile, or just his presence.
Family meant everything to Alfonso. He treasured time spent with loved ones at cookouts, holidays, or just sitting around telling stories and sharing a meal. He was famous for making his shrimp scampi, his sweet tooth (especially for ice cream), and his ability to make everyone laugh until they cried. He had a larger-than-life personality, but also a tender soul. He was always ready to help, to listen, or to offer a word of encouragement for those he loved.
Alfonso loved his sports, cheering passionately for the Raiders and the Yankees, and he enjoyed working out and staying active. But more than anything, he loved his family. He was a proud father to Tori Balarezo (Donald) and Johnathan Balarezo (Joselyn) of Naugatuck, and an adoring grandfather to Dontay, Kaius, Leo, and Luna. His joy in their lives was unmistakable, and his love for them was endless.
He is survived by his parents, Gabriel Balarezo (Monika) of Southbury and Silvia Sullo (John) of Prospect; his children and grandchildren; his siblings Lisa Sullo of Cheshire, Christie Ruiz-Riddick of North Haven, Nicholas Balarezo and Natalia Balarezo, both of Southbury; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.
Alfonso’s loss is felt deeply and widely. His memory will live on in the laughter he brought, the meals he shared, the hugs he gave, and the love he spread so freely.
Calling hours will be held at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home at 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect CT 06712 on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. A memorial service for Alfonso will be held at the funeral home starting at 6:00 P.M.
